Long-time Capital District musician Matt Smith returns to the area for a week of concerts and workshops celebrating the imminent release of 4 new albums, as well as the re-release of 10 previously-released albums digitally, some for the first time. Matt grew up in Clifton Park and resided here until 1994. Matt left the Capital District in 1994, first relocating to NYC for 15 years, then to Austin Texas, where he’s been for the last 10.
Matt is now the executive director of 6 Sting Ranch in Austin, as well as the 4 String Ranch. He also hosts the all-Spanish language guitar lesson channel on YouTube, Ranch de las Seis Cuerdas.
Matt’s Putnam Place performances, reunite him with his former bandmates: Tony Perrino (keys), Chris Peck (bass), Pete Sweeney (drums), Brian Melick (percussion) and Charlie Tokarz (woodwinds), all of whom are top-notch musicians. Each performance will feature a set by the Matt Smith Band as well as a Capital District all-star jam session.
Matt Smith’s new album “Matt Smith’s World Live at the Saxon Pub”, is an incendiary live set from a six-piece band consisting of some of Austin’s finest musicians, recorded during a 2011 residency. The next album “Chop Shop: Live at Strange Brew” features a trio including “the bass whisperer” Ed Freidland, currently with The Mavericks and Bryan Austin on drums, who regularly performs with David Grissom.
