SUMMARY:The Blind Owl Band w/ Bella's Bartok
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:00pm\nShow: 9:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: $20 Advance / $25 Day of Show \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n  \nHailing from Saranac Lake\, NY\, in the heart of the Adirondack mountains\, The Blind Owl Band has been creating what they call Freight Train String Music since 2010. And a freight train it truly is. Although the quartet’s sound is rooted in traditional stringed instruments (guitar\, basses\, banjo and mandolin)\, their music surges forward with the strength and power of a hundred-ton diesel locomotive. Songs barrel down the tracks with momentum and intensity normally found in much heavier\, heavily amplified music. “Although we look like a bluegrass band we are not\,” explains co-founder Eric Munley (mandolin\, vocals). “Collectively\, we’re a musical representation of the sounds floating around in our heads. We use the instruments of our ancestors\, but play music of our time; we’re influenced much more by all that has happened in the musical world over the past three decades than by what was created in the first three-quarters of the 20th Century.” The BlindOwl Band builds on what they regard as a basic approach to traditional songwriting and arranging and push the envelope\, stretching the limits of raw\, acoustic instrumentation. Munley explains part of the band’s mindset: “In a time of perfection and an increasing reliance on digital processors\, we’re trying to expand the sound\, to inspire use of wood and metal.” In just over ten years the band has released four albums (Rabble Rousing\, This Train We Ride is Made of Wood and Steel\, Skeezy Patty and Stimulus Package) and toured extensively throughout the eastern US\, logging over 800 shows across 17 states since January 2012. They’ve played on almost every festival east of the Mississippi and shared the stage with countless artists across all genres of the musical spectrum. This freight train has no one conductor but four shovel boys pushing the limits of their engine night after night\, so climb aboard and get ready for a one-of-a-kind ride. \nWebsite: www.theblindowlband.com \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nLive your fantasy and embrace the stranger side of life with Bella’s Bartok. A band known for raucous theatrical performances and an outspoken political message of finding hope in a world beset by cruel uncertainty. With utter joy\, they seamlessly blend a rich cacophony of sound and soul into their music with influences ranging from Punk to Folk and Pop to Americana.  Let your freak flag fly high\, fiercely and free\, throw your societal inhibitions to the wayside and seek comfort in the warm sonic embrace of Bella’s Bartok. We are the night and you are bound to boogie. \nFloors may be broken but hearts will be mended. \nWebsite: www.bellasbartok.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

SUMMARY:Jaytech w/ Adam Stark\, Lovely Candela\, groop.lab
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 9:00pm \nAges: 21+ \nTickets: $15 Advance / $20 Day of Show \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n  \nThe Boombox Series returns to Putnam Place\, featuring another 360º performance by some of the world’s top artists alongside the area’s beloved local talent. Anticipate an evening filled with foot-stomping rhythms and mesmerizing visuals. Dive into a rave community dedicated to the core values of our culture: Peace\, Love\, Unity\, and Respect! \n  \n \nAustralian Producer Jaytech has been perfecting his craft for most of his life. James Cayzer (better known as Jaytech\, or Jimbo to his friends) was 16 when he first experienced electronic music at a university rave party in Canberra\, his hometown. Immediately inspired by what he heard\, Jaytech began creating music using a simple computer set-up and his parents’ hi-fi speakers. His first worldwide vinyl release\, “Music 101\,” was played by DJs around the world\, and ultimately BBC’s Radio 1. \nToday\, nearly two decades later\, Jaytech continues to inspire fans and contemporaries alike. Currently working on his fourth artist album\, Jaytech is traveling the USA to seek inspiration and further develop his signature sound\, while continuing to DJ in select cities allowing him to connect with his fans. \nJaytech’s musical empire reaches far beyond his accolades as a DJ and artist. Positronic\, Jaytech’s first label and home to his third artist album “Awakening\,” is a platform to promote up-and-coming artists and break them into the scene. Each month\, tens of thousands of fans around the world listen to Jaytech’s long-standing radio show and podcast\, one of the first ever mix show podcasts of its kind\, and his “Studio Talk” podcast is a platform where Jaytech interviews his contemporaries in the online music scene. \nAs he continues to expand his music empire\, Jaytech helps producers break new ground with their music through his work as a studio engineer. With a new label in the works\, Jaytech will also soon be taking the electronic music world by storm once again\, as he continues to inspire the world through trance and progressive house. \nWebsite: www.jaytechmusic.com \n  \n  \n \nFor Adam Stark\, “trance family” is much bigger than a buzzword. He’s emerged as the genre’s poster boy in the Colorado nightlife scene and made a name for himself elsewhere along the way. \nWhether behind the decks or curating an event\, Stark’s ability to unite trance enthusiasts has made an undeniable impact. If you’ve seen him perform then you know it’s justified. He’s remarked that there’s no greater measure of success than how able one is to help others succeed\, but his DJ skills give him all the credentials he needs. \nA DJ’s DJ who holds true turntablism in high regard\, his showmanship sends ripples through the wall-to-wall crowds at his performances. No matter the event\, he sees every single set as an opportunity to connect with his audience emotionally. Adam Stark plays music for the person in the crowd who absolutely needs it\, because he knows firsthand how much of an impact that it can have. \nEvery city’s trance scene ought to have an Adam Stark – and even as he becomes a bigger player on the global stage\, his love for Denver will remain. If your finger’s on the pulse\, chances are you’ll see him perform in a city near you in the years to come. \nWebsite: www.facebook.com/AdamStarkOfficial \n  \n  \n \nLovely Candela is a Capital Region based DJ whose aim is to cultivate moments of sonic exploration and community connection. Their work can be witnessed in venues throughout the 518\, where they tap into a repertoire transversing the musical spectrum. Drawing from the mellowness of downtempo up to the high energy of electronic club music\, Lovely Candela’s hope is for listeners to encounter a moment of tapping in through the power of sound and dance. \nWebsite: linktr.ee/djlovelycandela \n  \n  \n \nThe founding members of groop.lab\, Denada and Choddy\, wanted to regularly experience something that was not being offered in the Capital Region\, a rich and full electronic music dance scene\, with eclectic music and eccentric people. In 2018\, after the pair took many overnight road trips to New York City and back\, (plus a trip abroad to the United Kingdom\, Italy\, Spain\, and the Netherlands) to experience the music scene they longed for\, they decided to begin honing their own skills mixing music. What they had seen and learned and felt in those places inspired how they would throw their own events in their basement in Albany. When the pandemic stopped the party\, groop.lab took the opportunity to practice and perfect what they were looking to build. With the inclusion of third member Ritual Jewel\, (who is now based in California and is currently working on producing his own tracks) the officially formed collective took the opportunity at the opening up of pandemic restrictions to get themselves out into the community and debuted as groop.lab in Troy on June 26th 2021. The name honors the atmosphere of the aforementioned basement being akin to a laboratory where musical experimentation took precedent and the “group groove” was found. Having built a reputation for themselves as party starters and community minded artists has not taken long. With the inclusion of newest member Less Said\, groop.lab is currently as always\, searching for the best music and advancing their live video graphic visuals as an integral part of their performances. \nWebsite: https://linktr.ee/groop.lab \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

SUMMARY:Badfish: A Tribute to Sublime w/ Kash'd Out\, The Quasi Kings
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 7:00pm (VIP Doors @ 6pm)\nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: SOLD OUT \n  \nBadfish is a vibe. Badfish is a sonic house party complete with plenty of gyrating fans sipping libations and enjoying various extracurricular activities. Badfish is feel-good music. \nFor almost 25 years\, the Rhode Island-based band – Joel Hanks on bass\, Scott Begin on drums\, Pat Downes on vocals and guitar\, Danny Torgersen on horns\, keyboards\, and guitars – have successfully paid tribute to Sublime\, the influential California group that brought ska-punk and reggae-rock to the mainstream. Badfish’s heartfelt celebration of Sublime’s musical spirit and legacy is so sought-after that they’ve headlined theaters\, sold out shows\, and played 15-20 gigs a month. \nBut now\, Badfish is more. After two decades of Sublime reverence\, Badfish originality is stomping into high gear. Badfish recently released its second new song\, the anthemic\, groove-fortified “F You Pay Me\,” with special guest Grieves\, as the follow-up to the band’s first single\, “High With You.” Now the Sublime repertoire is nicely augmented by fresh original tracks that blend seamlessly together. \nWebsite: www.badfish.com \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nStraight out of Orlando\, FL\, Kash’d Out hits the Reggae/Rock scene with plenty of experience. Kash’d Out are no strangers to getting by and rolling with the punches while maintaining good vibes through it all. The band’s signature\, positive energy and uncommon entrepreneurial hustle exemplifies the spirit behind their Music. \nWebsite: www.kashdout.com \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nThe Quasi Kings (reggae\, rock\, hip-hop) Formed in Columbus\, OH in the Spring of 2016\, The Quasi Kings have quickly “cemented their place as the sprawling\, multi-instrumental next generation of Columbus reggae.” (Columbus Dispatch). The band\, led by brothers Zach (vocals\, saxophone\, percussion) & Benny Coleman (vocals\, bass)\, varies in age\, musical backgrounds\, and taste\, leading to a worldly & distinctive collage. Their premier offering\, 2018’s Throwaway Culture EP\, features catchy hooks\, tight vocal harmonies\, and a unique blend of reggae\, rock\, and hip-hop. Their latest album\, Eye of the Storm\, takes things a step further with songs like“ Booze”\, a raucous Sabbath inspired tune\, and the dubby\, horn-driven “Cut It Out”. Their live shows are high energy\, captivating and ever-evolving. \nThe Quasi Kings have had the privilege to play with the likes of Dirty Heads\, Steel Pulse\, Badfish-Sublime Tribute\, Fortunate Youth\, Third World\, Israel Vibration\, The Werks\, Dark Star Orchestra\, Tropidelic\, and more. \nWebsite: www.thequasikings.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar

SUMMARY:The Wheel: Live Dead & Beyond
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 7:00pm\nShow: 8:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: $12 Advance / $15 Day of Show \n* The online presale period for this show has ended. Tickets will be available at the door. \n  \nBuckle up\, put it in gear\, and enjoy the ride with NY Capital Region’s authentic sounding Grateful Dead tribute band\, The Wheel as they put their driving spin on the music you love and enjoy. \n“The Wheel brings a big\, danceable groove to the party\, driven by the deep pocket of rhythm guitarist and bandleader Andy Morse\, bassist Dave Pallas\, drummer Bob McKeon and percussionist Pete Andriakos. They provide an unshakable foundation over which lead guitarist Bryan Gautie and keyboardist Kenny Schneidman weave solo after evocative solo together with virtuosity and taste.  Yet they are also capable of complex\, interwoven conversations that display the nuance and dynamic range of the Dead’s music in quieter\, more blissful passages. Vocally\, The Wheel possesses a diverse blend of styles\, from Morse’s smooth\, heartfelt delivery\, Schneidman’s full-throated soul\, and Bryan Gautie’s Jerry Garcia-like tenderness.” – Nippertown \nAndy Morse: (Rhythm guitar and vocals) With a deep love calling Andy to explore the musical roots of GD music\, Andy formed The Wheel originally as an acoustic duo in 2010 along with Dave Pallas. To many a family Andy is also known as Andy “The Music Man” (www.andysings.com) specializing in music for children full time since 1995. Andy studied under Mathew Smith currently of Six String Ranch in Austin TX. Andy has played with Rainbow Full of Sound\, Duck Duck Goose\, and Fearsome Critters. \nBob McKeon (Drums) Bob’s lifelong fascination with music\, and in particular drumming\, began as a child playing his dad’s Ringo-inspired 1960s Ludwig drum set\, which has been part of his life ever since.  Bob has been supporting many talented musicians and bands in the Capital Region and beyond ever since\, including Unclaimed Freight\, High Peaks Band\, and The Brokedown.  Since 2012\, Bob has intermittently supported The Garcia Project\, touring the northeast United States and southern California\, where he has shared the stage with Jerry Garcia Band members Melvin Seals\, Maria Muldaur\, and Jaclyn LaBranch. You can still catch Bob sitting-in with a variety of acts throughout the Capital Region. \nBryan Gautie: (Lead guitar and vocals) Bryan joined The Wheel in the summer of 2015 adding his dead on 70’s style of Jerry leads driving the band down the road to colorful destinations. Bryan unknowingly followed a similar path of Jerry\, studying bluegrass and then eventually discovering the music of the Grateful Dead. Gratefully he still has all ten fingers. Bryan has played in Ice Nine\, Yukon Cornelius and Slipknot. \nDr. Dave Pallas: (5 string bass) The Dr. is in session! When you’re not sitting on the couch in front of him you’ll find him supporting the back bone of the beat while adventuring into uncharted waters. No life raft needed. Dave has played in many bands over the years\, Duck Duck Goose\, The Swing Docs\, Missing Link. Andy and Dave have been jamming together on a consistent basis since 1985\, life long musical friends. \nKenny Schneidman (keys\, vox\, graphic art) is an artist and musician living in Woodstock\, NY. His musical roots trace back to his child hood\, beginning with traditional classical piano lessons at the tender age of 8. Kenny played in numerous bands with silly names likes Devil’s Chamber\, Mark Twang\, and Stone Deaf\, as well as one of the earliest Grateful Dead cover bands on the planet\, the Lost Highway Ramblers\, from 1977-1981\, with occasional reunions when the opportunity arises. He currently handles the keyboards and vocal duties with the Misty Mountain Ramblers\, a Woodstock based band of seasoned musicians. He often sits in with other bands throughout the region. \nDr. Pete Andriakos (percussion) When you’re not on “Dr. Sleep’s” surgery table you’ll find him adding many beautiful colors and rhythmic patterns to complete the canvas of The Wheel’s rhythmic section. Pete also plays in the Nolanauts \nWebsite: www.thewheelband.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

SUMMARY:Neon Avenue
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:00pm\nShow: 9:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: $17 Advance / $20 Day of Show \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n\n  \nBorn from the depths of the 2020 Pandemic\, this group of Capital Region musicians came together for what felt like necessity. With the stalling of the music industry\, a creative outlet was needed for these 5 individuals. What was first a casual get together playing some dead tunes quickly escalated into a singular goal of putting together a live stream. Something special happened during these early sessions and a “one-and-done” livestream turned into something much more. \nIn less than 2 years as a band\, Neon Avenue has made quite a stir in the ever popular (and saturated) Gratefully-inspired tribute scene\, growing quickly to become one of the bigger draws in the Upstate NY capital region Dead scene. The band brings a fresh take on the Grateful music that you know and love while placing an emphasis on improvisation\, unique setlist construction\, deeper cuts into the grateful songbook and a primal energy that they draw from their loyal fans during live performances. With past appearances at the Town of Hoosick Falls concert series\, Long Lake’s “Meat.Beer.Music” music festival\, as well as scheduled appearances at Lake George Steamboat Company’s “Rock the Dock Music Festival”\, “Rockin’ on the River” for the city of Troy\, and numerous headlining shows around the Capital region\, the word has certainly gotten out about this band. Composed of veteran musicians from numerous local groups like Formula 5\, Slipknot! (80’s/90’s Dead tribute)\, Stone Revival Band\, Knot Dead\, Jocamo\, and more\, this combination of players has set out to push the boundaries of the standard Dead tribute. \nThe group of Joe Davis (Formula 5)\, Mike Urbon (Knot Dead)\, Mike Cassels (Stone Revival Band\, Jocamo\, Knot Dead)\, Mike McDonald (Formula 5\, Knot Dead) and Doug Klein (Slipknot\, Robanic\, Knot Dead) were re-inspired playing the music of the Grateful Dead\, Jerry Garcia Band\, Ratdog\, and others. While existing in an endless sea of 1970’s era Grateful Dead tributes\, this group strives to separate itself with a dedication to unique arrangements of setlists and song segues\, utilizing extended improvisation\, playing deeper cuts from all eras of the Dead\, JGB\, and Ratdog songbook. \nWebsite: www.neonavenuedead.com \n\n  \n \nReturn to Calendar \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Dave Matthews Tribute Band
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:00pm\nShow: 9:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: $20 Advance / $25 Day of Show \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n  \nTheir name says it all: The Dave Matthews Tribute Band. For nearly 20 years\, the band has been performing sold out shows around the world; playing over 1\,500 dates in 46 states and 8 countries. Many go to their live shows with reservations\, high expectations\, and the burning question\, “Do these guys sound like the real Dave Matthews Band?” Almost always the answer is\, “Yes!” \nSince 2004\, The DMTB is the only nationally touring tribute to the Dave Matthews Band. This 5-piece ensemble strives to pay homage to their famous counterparts by matching the excitement\, energy\, intensity and intimacy of a DMB live show. \nWhile most fans never witnessed the real band before they became the platinum-selling artists they are today\, The Dave Matthews Tribute Band prides itself on giving audiences this opportunity at intimate venues around the world. \nAs Rick Grant of Entertaining U in Jacksonville\, FL wrote\, “The Dave Matthews Tribute Band turned out to exceed its billing as a quality improvisational band that uses Dave Matthews material as themes to improvise. Clearly\, this distinguishes them from the other so-called tribute bands. The band is exceptionally tight and produces a solid groove over which the players improvise with hot chops.” \nBeyond mastering the DMB sound and the relentless touring\, what separates The Dave Matthews Tribute Band from other cover bands is their passion\, love\, and respect for DMB and their music. That is what makes you come out of one of their shows saying\, “Yeah\, they really do sound like the real Dave Matthews Band.” \nWebsite: www.thedmtb.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

Childhood neighbors Richard James (vocals\, keys) and Lyle Brewer (guitar) shared fence lines and melodies as they both grew and explored their own musical paths. The quartet became complete with the addition of Dan Kelly (bass) and Dean Johnston (drums) in 2019. Their creative incubation began with a weekly residency that grew in large part by the passion of their fans\, the “Neighbors”\, who continue to inspire the band as the fan base has expanded across the country. \nWith a diverse catalog of hundreds of songs\, the musical juggernaut Neighbor has become one of the most exciting and unpredictable live bands on the music scene today. Neighbor combines ambitious composition\, soulful balladry\, and a fearless approach to their lengthy improvisations. Not boxed in by a single genre\, their songwriting brings elements of Americana\, Funk\, Rock\, Jazz\, Soul and more. The band is putting pen to paper once again as they head back into the studio to begin work on their second album. \nCome see what’s good in the Neighborhood. \nWebsite: www.neighbortunes.com \n  \n \n  \n \nIn late 2016 Brooklyn-based guitarist and songwriter Jeremy Hilliard began performing and touring under the name PEAK. In 2018\, he released the now critically acclaimed debut album Electric Bouquet\, produced by Dave Brandwein (Turkuaz). In 2019 the band took on a life of its own as one by one some of the best musicians in the improv rock scene joined the group including Kito Bovenschulte (Particle) on drums\, Josh T. Carter (Hayley Jane and The Primates) on bass\, and newcomer extraordinaire Johnny Young on keys. The group’s music\, described as Psychedelic Indie Funk\, is a mix of poetic\, melodic songwriting\, moody electrofunk\, riffed-out blues-rock\, and exploratory danceable improvisations. Some of their many influences include artists such as The Band\, The Talking Heads\, Phish\, The Grateful Dead\, Radiohead\, James Brown\, and Miles Davis\, as well as modern songwriters such as Conor Oberst\, Mac Demarco\, Kurt Vile\, and Jack White to name a few. \nWebsite: www.peaktheband.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

Armed with an evolving catalog of material and cultivation of an identity unique to Dogs In A Pile\, the quintet is laying down a musical and communal foundation most often associated with the scene’s most beloved acts. \nWebsite: www.dogsinapileofficial.com \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nInstrumental progressive rock trio Consider the Source has been honing in on their unique sci-fi fusion sound for over a decade\, but it is with their 2024 release\, “The Stare” that their sonic vision is fully realized. Produced by David Prater (Dream Theater\, Firehouse)\, the 5-song album reveals more of the heavy metal influence the band has always had while also including the improvisational and cultural elements they have become synonymous with. This new collection of material certainly showcases their cutting edge instruments and technical virtuosity but the focus here is on the songs\, chock full of catchy riffs and melodies ranging from delicate and heartfelt to full on headbanger’s ball. \nWebsite: www.considerthesourcemusic.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n

SUMMARY:Dogs in a Pile w/ Annie in the Water
DESCRIPTION:Doors: 8:00pm\nShow: 9:00pm \nAges: 18+ \nTickets: $25 (A limited number of 4-Day Tickets are also available) \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n  \nDogs in a Pile kick off their 4-night New Year’s Run at Putnam Place\, with special guest\, Annie in the Water. \n  \n \nThe sandy shores of Asbury Park\, New Jersey are hallowed ground in the Northeast; the rolling waves have ushered generations of venerated musicians to worldwide acclaim. Dogs In A Pile\, an eclectic quintet\, has emerged as the heir apparent to the town’s rich musical legacy. Merging funk\, jazz\, and rock and roll with psychedelia\, the band presents a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes eerily reminiscent of the days of yesteryear. \nThe Dogs employ a unified approach to performance and songwriting\, crafting aural mosaics through adept instrumentation and humble precocity. As avid storytellers\, they draw inspiration from personal experiences\, balancing life’s foibles with ever-present youthful sanguinity. \nDogs formed when Jersey Shore native and guitar gun-slinger Jimmy Law began playing with family friend Joe Babick (drums) at a young age. Lightning struck when they were introduced to Berklee School of Music student and bass player Sam Lucid\, who immediately suggested fellow Berklee student and keyboard player Jeremy Kaplan. The addition of Berklee student Brian Murray (guitar) in 2019 made for the quintessential final piece in the Dogs’ puzzle. \nA string of sold-out local shows drove the development of a massive Northeast fan base\, affectionately known as the Dog Pound. As the band has traversed new territory\, their astronomical rise has continued nationwide. Armed with an evolving catalog of material and cultivation of an identity unique to Dogs In A Pile\, the quintet is laying down a musical and communal foundation most often associated with the scene’s most beloved acts. \nWebsite: www.dogsinapileofficial.com \n  \n \n  \n  \n \nAnnie in the Water is an experience and a culture of compassion and joy. The band’s Americana Indie Rock found its roots in acoustic guitars without limits. Their songwriting\, led by guitars and synthesizers overtop a ground-shaking rhythm section\, offers the listener the ability to traverse across multiple genres. \nBecause every show is different\, experiencing the music of Annie in the Water live can be compared to paddling with a river. At times you may find yourself in the calm of the flow while at other times you may be deep in the rapids while the music churns and grows in energy. With the ebbs and flows you’re reminded of the constant that you are a part of something greater than yourself\, working together with the forces around you and caught in the midst of a beautiful moment in time. Each performance is another adventure. \nWebsite: www.annieinthewater.com \n  \n \n  \nReturn to Calendar \n
