At the base of the Bridger Mountains\, they formed a communicative musical bond that has resulted in innovative string music spanning the traditional ideal and pushing a unique style into unknown territory. \nA move east to Vermont introduced life changes\, ambitions\, and musicians. After meeting local banjo mainstay\, Thomas Bryce\, the three began formulating musical ideas and a blueprint for the ideal Bluegrass band. \nRecently\, bassist Rob Strasenburgh came on board\, and fiddle player Silas Hamilton often joins them on stage. Rainbow Full of Sound will perform selections from the Grateful Dead’s 5/8/77 Barton Hall show from Cornell University\, followed by a mashup set of Grateful Dead & Led Zeppelin. \nIt’s somewhat boggling to think of Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Page swapping riffs – the beatific Buddha and the slashing\, edgy Page. But as veteran player of Grateful Dead music Waynard Scheller noticed one night\, the chords of the Dead anthem “St. Stephen” merged seamlessly into “Whole Lotta Love.” Then he sat down and found lots of pairs of songs that fit together. And thus was born “Dead-Zep\,” a new band formed from his Rainbow Full of Love to mash up the two repertoires. \nThey not only flow from Zep to Dead and back again\, they play Zep songs like the GD and Dead songs the way Zep would…which makes for a fascinating\, sometimes shocking evening. Hearing “Ramble On” suddenly dissolve into “St. Stephen” can be amazing to the point of a slight and interesting sense of disorientation. Luko Adjaffi was born Jocelyn Beauvil May 18 1966\, influenced by his native Haitian and Dominican ancestry. Fluent in English\, French Spanish and Creole he artfully weaves French and English throughout his lyrical ballads. Many of his songs are written and sung in French. Many critics and fans see Bob Marley’s spirit in his eclectic fusion of ballad\, reggae\, Caribbean style music. In the United States\, he has performed in several Bob Marley Festivals. Luko is a songwriter\, performer\, producer\, composer\, actor and vocal artist. \nFrom the age of five\, performing in church\, he became a youth sensation by the age of 7 performing in talent competitions all around Haiti. In school\, Luko learned classical music with private French teachers on music theory. At 10 years old he learned to play the guitar and wrote his first song; “La Bataille” one of his teachers was impressed and noted ” you’ll be a singer.” That little voice inside of Luko pushed him to complete Elementary School through High School. Luko finally took his education seriously while writing of the sorrow of Haiti’s problems. He attended the University of Bruxelles in Brussels\, Belgium from 1986-1988 studying music as an exchange student.
