Enjoy a little mountain music. Then settle in for the movie and a Q& A with various members of the band we miss so much. \nThe Movie\nA documentary film directed by Rob Lichter (Bert Blotto) that chronicles the career of the Upstate NY-based 1980s new wave band\, Blotto\, a band that flew too close to the sun to make it really big.\n\n  \nBlotto rose from the ashes of the Star-Spangled Washboard Band and scored an unlikely hit with I Wanna Be A Lifeguard in the early 80’s — thanks in part to getting airplay on MTV when the network launched August 1\, 1981.\n  \nThe film follows their struggles to land a major label deal despite huge success with touring (ex: The Blot & Blue Tour with Blue Oyster Cult) and releasing their own EPs and Albums.\n\n  \nThe movie features hits like:\n\n“I Wanna Be A Lifeguard” (Day One on MTV)\nMetalhead\nI Quit\nWhen the Second Feature Starts\nGoodbye\, Mr Bond\nShe’s Got a Big Boyfriend\nMy Baby’s the Star of a Driver’s Ed Movie\n\nBonus Features: archival footage\, performances\, and interviews documenting their comedic\, genre-bending style.\n\n  \nSaratoga Connection\nThis is where it all began!\nThe formed\, practiced and played their first shows at 17 MAPLE (later knows as the Metro and now the Night Owl). Some even lived upstairs and worked there!\n\n  \nSchedule\n6:00pm: Mix\, Mingle\, Meet\, Memories\n6:30pm: Live Music by Josh Clark\n7:00pm: The Movie\n8:15pm: Q&A\n\n\n\nCHANGE UP: An announcement from LOST RADIO ROUNDERS:\n\n\n\n“Unfortunately\, due to an unexpected emergency\, Bowtie Blotto will not be able to join the March 19 event at Putnam Place. The Lost Radio Rounders will therefore be unable to perform. We appreciate everyone’s understanding.\n\n\n\nThe film screening will start at 7 as scheduled\, followed by a Q&A with Broadway Blotto\, Lee Harvey Blotto and the director\, Rob Lichter AKA Bert Blotto.”\n\nSub’ing will be Josh Clark\, offering his ‘homegrown folk rock:’ stylings during the 6PM Meet-Mix-Mingle pre-movie hour\n\n\n  \nReturn to Calendar

SUMMARY:Saratoga Film Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: $100 (2-Day Festival Pass) \n** Click Here to Purchase Tickets ** \n  \nThe Saratoga Film Showcase is a weekend-long exhibition of the newest generation of filmmakers\, and a celebration of their work in our region and beyond. Hosted by Putnam Place\, SFS will offer audiences a comprehensive glimpse into locally produced cinema\, as well as an opportunity to connect with the artists. The showcase will feature special guest Brit McAdams and his debut feature “Paint” starring Owen Wilson and shot right here in Saratoga Springs. Accompanying this exclusive offering will be several blocks of short films and panel discussions that explore the impact of filming on upstate communities\, choreography in film\, shooting upstate vs. New York City\, boundary pushing narratives\, and much more. SFS is a nonprofit endeavor\, collaborated on by a multitude of local organizations such as Saratoga Arts\, Discover Saratoga\, Saratoga Living\, 518 Film Network\, and more. The event is volunteer-run\, and all proceeds will be donated to a scholarship fund for teens to attend Art Week this summer at local nonprofit Camp Stomping Ground. \nHeadliner\n \nPaint stars Owen Wilson as Carl Nargle\, Vermont’s #1 public television painter who is convinced he has it all: a signature perm\, custom van\, and fans hanging on his every stroke… until a younger\, better artist steals everything (and everyone) Carl loves. \nShot predominately in and around Saratoga Springs\, Paint is the perfect centerpiece for an event that aims to demonstrate the potential of filmmaking in our region. Writer/Director and special guest Brit McAdams used notable Saratoga locations such as the Lincoln Bathhouse\, Olde Bryan Inn\, and Desperate Annie’s to truly capture the beauty and charm of our city. Join us in celebrating Saratoga’s representation in Hollywood\, and chatting with the man who brought it to town. \nShort Films\n \nShort films from the Capital Region and beyond are screened across three sessions throughout the weekend\, each with its own unique theme. Want to explore films shot in recognizable local locations? What about projects that cleverly incorporate dance? Or stories that intentionally push narrative boundaries? We’ve got it all. Come meet the new era of filmmakers\, and see what they’re ushering in. \nPanels\nWitness discussions that expand on the themes that inspired the programmed shorts.
Explore dance’s role in film with local choreographers that have designed for both screen and stage. Hear location managers’ perspective on what makes the Capital Region such an enticing place to make movies in. There’s plenty to talk about; come be part of the conversation. \nSchedule\nFriday\, January 17th \n7:00pm – Shorts After Dark \n9:00pm – Welcome Party \n  \nSaturday\, January 18th \n9:30am – Local Locations Shorts \n11:30am – Shooting Upstate Panel \n12:30pm – Lunch Break \n2:00pm – Dance Shorts \n4:00pm – Choreography in Film Panel \n7:00pm – Headliner Feature: Paint w/special guest Brit McAdams (@ Scene One Wilton Mall Cinemas) \n9:30pm – Closing Night Party \n  \nAll proceeds of this event will go towards scholarships to send kids to Arts Fest this summer at Camp Stomping Ground \n \nThe Saratoga Film Showcase aims to inspire the creation of more art in our community\, and is proud to donate all profits to Camp Stomping Ground to continue making art more accessible to our youth. \nMore info about the camp can be found here:  https://campstompingground.org
