In 2018\, after the pair took many overnight road trips to New York City and back\, (plus a trip abroad to the United Kingdom\, Italy\, Spain\, and the Netherlands) to experience the music scene they longed for\, they decided to begin honing their own skills mixing music. What they had seen and learned and felt in those places inspired how they would throw their own events in their basement in Albany. When the pandemic stopped the party\, groop.lab took the opportunity to practice and perfect what they were looking to build. With the inclusion of third member Ritual Jewel\, (who is now based in California and is currently working on producing his own tracks) the officially formed collective took the opportunity at the opening up of pandemic restrictions to get themselves out into the community and debuted as groop.lab in Troy on June 26th 2021. The name honors the atmosphere of the aforementioned basement being akin to a laboratory where musical experimentation took precedent and the “group groove” was found.
